I greeted Loco with a fist pound when we met across from the Dog Park at 2 pm.
"Where's RB?" I said.
"He forgot his shoes so he ran home to get them" Loco replied. "He's going to ride the opposite direction and meet us on the trail".
"Cool, let's roll".
We pedaled across the bridge and dropped into Buttermilk Heights. We were immediately immersed in a thick, tar like mud. I felt it spatter up the back of my jacket, giving me an instant skid mark. We rode up behind two biker chicks. The mud was thick and deep, and I didn't want to put my foot down into it, but I was at the mercy of the biker chick in front of me. She slipped and I reacted by stopping cold.
"Muddy spooge on my shoe". Oh Shit, did I say that out loud?
Loco laughed as I blushed. Maybe she didn't hear me...
We emerged from the mud and spotted G.A. riding towards us. He was headed straight into the mud.
"It's a total mess back there dude, do you want to turn around and ride with us towards Northbank?" Loco asked.
"What time is it, I've got to meet P.H. at Dogwood at 3?". He replied.
"2:30". Loco said.
"Let's do it". G.A. said.
We were rolling again, the trail was soft, but not muddy. We pedaled across the road at Reedy Creek and dropped down to the tunnel. We rode up the other side, avoiding the tunnel and onto Buttermilk. Within seconds I was dropped by the speedy G.A. and Loco. My mind spiraled into the recesses of self pity. I quickly pulled myself together as I approached them on the stairs. We hiked down the stairs and rode onto the wooden bridge to Belle Isle, and from there we rode accross the pedestrian bridge to the head of the North Bank trail at Tredager Street. The trail on the north side of the river was in much better condition, almost completely dry and hard packed.
At the wicked cool switch back, where if you hit it just right, you can get some sick acceleration going uphill, we saw RB and stopped to scoop him up. Our group was now 4 strong and we climed out and into the parking lot at the North Bank park and all rolled slowly towards the stairway to heaven. G.A. hooked up with P.H. for another go round, while Loco, R.B. and myself attacked the stairway and finished the loop de loop...
